Vista issues - 15/12/2007 17:56

So yeah, I'm quite busy with lots of different stuff and unfortunately ReXplorer 2.1 isn't one of them. Sorry about that.
In the meantime, it's been brought to my attention that ReXplorer has problems with Vista. Here are the known issues :

  • Impossibility to run the configuration tool (aka RXConfig.exe). That's mainly due to a registry problem and will be fixed in ReXplorer 2.1. A good workaround has been reported by JohnnyHazardous : right-click on RXConfig.exe or its shortcut and set the compatibility to "Windows XP SP2". Thanks Johnny for the tip :)
  • "Load in StarCraft" does not work. That's because of Vista's security control. I do not really know how to fix it easily ; people who disable UAC in Vista should not have this problem (but I'm not even sure of that) but that's not recommended. No workaround for that, sorry :(

If you've read the latest RepASM news, then you know some things are coming :) But since the audience is somewhat different, I'll repeat a few things here :

  • ReXplorer 2.1 is coming. New cool features, somehow the same as RepASM's but a few new ones as well (replay renaming, web update of new SC versions). The installer has been modified a bit so it can check if you have installed the Microsoft C Runtime Libraries. Don't have a date yet but it will probably be out before September.
  • A new home for RepASM/ReXplorer. We have finally agreed with some friends to rent a dedicated server of our own so that's where RepASM and ReXplorer will be. Should happen somewhere in August.
  • Other cool services. Can't tell much about them now but I hope people will like them :) Should be up in September, maybe October.
That should be about it for people interested in ReXplorer but not RepASM :) Stay tuned !

ReXplorer 2.0.2 - 05/10/2006 00:21

Well, better late than never, ReXplorer 2.0.2 addresses two major issues :

  • Detection of 1.14 replays
  • Minimap generation bug fix (on maps like Tau Cross, ReXplorer exploded :P)
Plus, ReXplorer's installer is now much lighter. This is due to the fact that we do not embed Visual Studio 2005 runtime libraries anymore. But you still need them. If you haven't already installed it on your computer, please download them on this page (or see the Downloads section). Without them, ReXplorer won't install properly and won't work.
Anyway, hope you'll enjoy this new version.

What's pending - 27/07/2006 01:11

So there are a couple of things I'd like to do for ReXplorer ; the thing is I don't really know when I'll be able to do them 'cause my life is a bit busy at the moment :p Anyway, here's the list :

  • change the way replays are unpacked. This is an internal change and should have no impact whatsoever for the users.
  • add a "guessed winner" feature. Looks like it's very easy to make (thanks to SmK, from AdvBrowser).
  • publish ReXplorer's source code, along with the code to allow developers to easily reuse our (hard) work around the replay file format.
  • make ReXplorer compatible with Windows Vista. From what I've seen, it would look very nice and handy.
  • change the installer to get rid of the way Microsoft Runtime libraries in the package. This is currently done in a poor way and I apologize for that. If everything goes right, this should decrease the installer's size by 50 % at least.
And maybe other things I've forgotten. As I said, it's just a sort of a "todo list", do not expect these to come out soon 'cause I have no idea when or if they will be done.
As always, if you have any other suggestion, do not hesitate to drop me a line :)
