ReXplorer : all the news
Vista issues - 15/12/2007 17:56

So yeah, I'm quite busy with lots of different stuff and unfortunately ReXplorer 2.1 isn't one of them. Sorry about that.
In the meantime, it's been brought to my attention that ReXplorer has problems with Vista. Here are the known issues :

  • Impossibility to run the configuration tool (aka RXConfig.exe). That's mainly due to a registry problem and will be fixed in ReXplorer 2.1. A good workaround has been reported by JohnnyHazardous : right-click on RXConfig.exe or its shortcut and set the compatibility to "Windows XP SP2". Thanks Johnny for the tip :)
  • "Load in StarCraft" does not work. That's because of Vista's security control. I do not really know how to fix it easily ; people who disable UAC in Vista should not have this problem (but I'm not even sure of that) but that's not recommended. No workaround for that, sorry :(

Incoming - 23/07/2007 23:29

If you've read the latest RepASM news, then you know some things are coming :) But since the audience is somewhat different, I'll repeat a few things here :

  • ReXplorer 2.1 is coming. New cool features, somehow the same as RepASM's but a few new ones as well (replay renaming, web update of new SC versions). The installer has been modified a bit so it can check if you have installed the Microsoft C Runtime Libraries. Don't have a date yet but it will probably be out before September.
  • A new home for RepASM/ReXplorer. We have finally agreed with some friends to rent a dedicated server of our own so that's where RepASM and ReXplorer will be. Should happen somewhere in August.
  • Other cool services. Can't tell much about them now but I hope people will like them :) Should be up in September, maybe October.
That should be about it for people interested in ReXplorer but not RepASM :) Stay tuned !

ReXplorer 2.0.2 - 05/10/2006 00:21

Well, better late than never, ReXplorer 2.0.2 addresses two major issues :

  • Detection of 1.14 replays
  • Minimap generation bug fix (on maps like Tau Cross, ReXplorer exploded :P)
Plus, ReXplorer's installer is now much lighter. This is due to the fact that we do not embed Visual Studio 2005 runtime libraries anymore. But you still need them. If you haven't already installed it on your computer, please download them on this page (or see the Downloads section). Without them, ReXplorer won't install properly and won't work.
Anyway, hope you'll enjoy this new version.

What's pending - 27/07/2006 01:11

So there are a couple of things I'd like to do for ReXplorer ; the thing is I don't really know when I'll be able to do them 'cause my life is a bit busy at the moment :p Anyway, here's the list :

  • change the way replays are unpacked. This is an internal change and should have no impact whatsoever for the users.
  • add a "guessed winner" feature. Looks like it's very easy to make (thanks to SmK, from AdvBrowser).
  • publish ReXplorer's source code, along with the code to allow developers to easily reuse our (hard) work around the replay file format.
  • make ReXplorer compatible with Windows Vista. From what I've seen, it would look very nice and handy.
  • change the installer to get rid of the way Microsoft Runtime libraries in the package. This is currently done in a poor way and I apologize for that. If everything goes right, this should decrease the installer's size by 50 % at least.
And maybe other things I've forgotten. As I said, it's just a sort of a "todo list", do not expect these to come out soon 'cause I have no idea when or if they will be done.
As always, if you have any other suggestion, do not hesitate to drop me a line :)

ReXplorer 2.0.1 - 15/06/2006 02:35

A small but useful fix for ReXplorer : it should now stop messing up version numbers 1.09b and 1.10. Technical details can be seen on this TL.net topic ; thanks to iamke55 for the help :)
You will find version 2.0.1 in the Download section. Be careful, mirrors aren't updated yet.

Swedish, Hungarian and Polish translations - 10/06/2006 14:54

First of all, since I have made no official news about it, some of you might not know this : chrisbk has left our world and is certainly watching us from above :( I posted about it in TL.net forums or PGTour news. Consequently to losing one of my best friends, I have lost all motivation about any development to RepASM or ReXplorer. So don't expect any feature to come out soon... sorry for that. I'll publish the source code of ReXplorer 2.0.
Anyway, very nice people have sent me the translations for version 2.0 in memory of chrisbk, so I release a new version of ReXplorer containing these extra 3 translations : Swedish (thanks to Patriot.dlk), Hungarian (thanks to Walkman_) and Polish (thanks to mcm44). You'll find this in the Download section. The mirrors aren't updated yet.

ReXplorer 2.0 is out - 13/04/2006 13:59

Yeah, after a 3-month-long silence, here is ReXplorer 2.0 ! It comes with new awesome features and here's a quick glance at what's new :

  • Minimap extraction from replays or SCM/SCX files ;
  • Map extraction from replays
  • New Properties window, including a minimap
  • RWT messages display
  • See the minimap of maps or replays in Windows' Thumbnails view
You can get a full list of features as well as screenshots in the Features section.
To download ReXplorer 2.0, go to the Download section. WARNING : be sure to uninstall any previous version of ReXplorer before installing this new one and reboot if the uninstaller or installer asks you to ! In case of any problem, refer to the FAQ.
We had a tough time developing this one, we hope you'll enjoy it :)

ReXplorer and minimap generation - 14/01/2006 15:05

If you've seen RepASM 3.2 announcement, then you probably wonder if the minimap feature will ever appear in ReXplorer. Be patient, you'll get it ! :)

Polish translation fixed - 07/01/2006 18:53

ReXplorer was updated with a fixed version of the Polish translation, thanks to mcm44 and SzybkiLopez(GN). Nothing else in this, so if you're not Polish, there's no need for updating ReXplorer now :)

ReXplorer 1.0 final ! - 03/01/2006 14:43

Finally it's here, to wish you a happy new year :)
We took more time than originally planned to release ReXplorer 1.0 final because of many reasons : the different translations took some time to arrive (we received the Korean translation only a week ago), we worked a lot on the next version (and possibly on a new tool...) that you will definitely appreciate, a few bugfixes because of some bad replays...
Anyway, ReXplorer 1.0 final is here and will not disappoint you. Please note that this version cannot work if you use a Windows 95/98/ME. For these versions, you can download ReXplorer 1.0 RC but we do not support it anymore. Here's a list of the features in 1.0 final :

  •  11 languages supported (English, French, Korean, Russian, German, Spanish, Turkish, Swedish, Dutch, Czech and Polish). Chinese translation is still needed, so if you think you can help or know someone who can help, please see the news below this one, thank you. Of course, any other translation or fixes in the existing translations are welcome :) ;
  • installer/uninstaller more robust ;
  • stable features, meaning that most (if not all) replays can be processed without any crash.
Anyway, go download it !

WARNING : we strictly DO NOT support any installation found on any other website than this one. If you want to upload ReXplorer's installation on your website, please contact us before doing so and we'll see what we can do. Please DO NOT upload ReXplorer on your server without telling us, we simply don't like it.

Translating ReXplorer in Russian, Chinese, Korean and others - 23/11/2005 10:53

Two months after the Release Candidate, we're back with the 1.0 final waiting around the corner. What we need to finalize this version is a translation of all the messages in ReXplorer. Many people proposed themselves to help us and we're very glad they did so. We now have a translation for Czech, Dutch, German, Polish, Spanish, Swedish and Turkish. However, we still lack 3 important languages (Russian, Chinese and Korean) ; they are important because they represent the majority of ReXplorer's users (well, according to our website's statistics). Of course, other languages are welcome ! So if you wish to help, do not hesitate to contact us ! A discussion dedicated to the translations can be found at TeamLiquid : http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=33807
Do not hesitate to ask any question on this topic or even by contacting us using the Contact page.

Thank you in advance for making us improve our software and making it available to the majority of users. All translators and people helping us in this whole translation work will of course be credited in the Credits section of ReXplorer's website ; moreover, once we'll have integrated all translations in the software, we will send you a copy of ReXplorer 1.0 before we release it so that you can beta-test it and validate that your translation was correctly integrated in the software :)

We hope we can release 1.0 final in the days to come. Stay tuned !

ReXplorer 1.0 RC - 25/09/2005 01:46

Here we go, ReXplorer 1.0 is now complete but we need your help to test it and tell us what's buggy and what's not. That's why this release is not the final 1.0 but is merely a Release Candidate.
Moreover, this version is still in English. We'll work on how to integrate the translations during the next week and we'll need your help to translate the software ! Watch out for the Brood War forum on TeamLiquid !
The differences between the 0.1 and this version are :

  • The "Load in StarCraft" contextual menu is now available. It has been designed to work at optimized speed, meaning loading replays with ReXplorer will be faster than doing it manually ! Moreover, this feature also allows you to setup the speed at which your replay will run. However, try not to move your mouse around too much before the replay is actually loaded, it might mess with this feature :)
  • A configuration tool is available to help you customize the tooltip, the properties page and the contextual menu.
  • A new column containing the replay version (it is NOT an official verison number, it's just a guess based on the game date) is available. This information is shown in the Properties too.
  • A "ReXplorer" entry is available in the Start -> Programs menu. It contains 2 shortcuts : one to the configuration tool and one to uninstall ReXplorer.
  • The tooltip display is now clearer ; see the Features section !
  • Several minor fixes and improvements have been brought.

You can go to the Download section to get this new version ! WARNING : please uninstall any previous version of ReXplorer before installing this one and please reboot if the uninstaller or installer ask you so.

Fixed installer is up - 13/09/2005 15:32

OK, I found some way to fix the installer and to reupload it. Find the new version in the Download section. This version works fine and was tested on a machine which did not have the previous libraries installed, so basically, you shouldn't have some obvious problem with the installation !

Be careful however : the new installer is 700 KB heavier because of the dependancies...

Version 0.1 not working : hotfix - 13/09/2005 14:38

In the current installer package, it appears that some Microsoft DLLs are missing. You can download them here : http://repasm.free.fr/rx/files/libs.zip
In order for ReXplorer to work, perform these steps in this order :

  • if you already installed ReXplorer, uninstall it (via Add/Remove Programs)
  • download the zip file and unzip the 3 libraries into your C:\Windows\system32 directory
  • reinstall ReXplorer.

Sorry for the mistake. The installer will be updated as soon as I'll get back home.
ReXplorer first beta release - 12/09/2005 00:49

A first public beta of ReXplorer is now available in the Download section. The available features are :

  • Custom tooltip when hovering over a .rep file in Windows' Explorer ;
  • Extra tab in the Properties of a (or a list of) .rep file in Windows' Explorer ;
  • Extra columns in the Details view in Windows' Explorer.
We release this beta for bug fix purpose. We need you to help us track them :) If you find a replay having trouble to be displayed correctly or if you find any glitch with ReXplorer, we strongly encourage you to let us know about it by using the Contact page.

Update and checkpoint - 19/08/2005 23:11

So after one month and a half, what's new ? Well, things are looking good so far : the tooltip feature is 100 % complete, the columns feature is 95 % complete (development is finished but I think we might need to refine things here and there), the Properties feature is still under development (the GUI is the biggest part, getting all information from the replay is something we've already done for RepASM), the installer is also 90-95 % complete and there's a new feature I'd like to add : the "Load in StarCraft" contextual menu item (see the updated Screenshots section). The menu is ready, I just need to make the command work :D

Chrisbk is currently on holidays in Eastern Europe and should be back next week or so ; then, it will be my turn to leave for Morocco. If there's anyone out there who's eagerly waiting for ReXplorer to be released (which I doubt :) ), well I guess you'll have to wait a bit longer :p I'd like to have some full-featured beta version ready for late September or early October but who knows what can happen until then.

You'll notice a Credits section in which we thank people who have already helped us in the ReXplorer project, mostly translators from the TeamLiquid forums. Thanks guys !

Anyway, should you have any question or suggestion to make about ReXplorer, do not hesitate to contact us !

What's this ? - 30/06/2005 20:30

Well, there's nothing much to see here right now. Take it as teaser if you want. But you might take a look at the screenshot section :)

ReXplorer is still under development and the further we advance, the more we learn. So there's no fixed release date but be sure we spend a lot of time into this project.
